1And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojourners of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Yehovah, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. 2And the word of Yehovah came to him, saying, 3Go away from here, and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. 4And it shall be, that you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. 5So he went and did according to the word of Yehovah; for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. 6And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. 7And it happened after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land. 8And the word of Yehovah came to him, saying, 9Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you. 10So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Bring me, please, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11And as she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, please, a morsel of bread in your hand. 12And she said, As Yehovah your God lives, I do not have a cake, only a handful of flour in the jar, and a little oil in the jug: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13And Elijah said to her, Do not fear; go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for yourself and for your son. 14For thus says Yehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jug of oil run dry, until the day that Yehovah sends rain upon the earth. 15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her household, ate many days. 16The jar of flour was not used up, nor did the jug of oil run dry, according to the word of Yehovah, which he spoke by Elijah. 17And it happened after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so severe, that there was no breath left in him. 18And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, O you man of God? you have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son! 19And he said to her, Give me your son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the upper room, where he was staying, and laid him upon his own bed. 20And he cried to Yehovah, and said, O Yehovah my God, have you also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by killing her son? 21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to Yehovah, and said, O Yehovah my God, please, let this child’s soul come into him again. 22And Yehovah listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the upper room into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, See, your son lives. 24And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of Yehovah in your mouth is truth.
